Macclesfield Success

Rich Sumpter from La Bicicleta won the Xtra Mile Events Macclesfield Triathlon on Sunday the 15th of August. Sumpter battled round the course in an impressive time of 1 hour, 12minutes and 5 seconds, closely followed by Jonathan Metcalfe 52 seconds later. The first female to cross the line was Vicki Wade from Manchester Triathlon Club who earlier in the season won the Llandudno Sea Swim. She successfully completed the event in a course record breaking 1 hour, 21 minutes and 24 seconds.

The sprint distance race started with a 400m swim in the indoor swimming pool at the Macclesfield Leisure Centre before the competitors took to their bikes and completed a 24.9km ride from the picturesque Cheshire Plains out into the edge of the Peak District. Finally the course ended with a 2 lap run around the local area before crossing the finish line to be given a well earned goodie bag filled with products from Cliff Bar, Dorset Cereals, Yorkshire Tea and Accelerade to name a few.

The course was marshalled brilliantly by a large group of volunteers, including experienced triathletes from Scarab Triathlon Club, Northwich Air Cadets and Trojan Poynton Explorers who steered the competitors in the right direction, encouraging them to the finish line.
The day was fantastic with the sun shining on the competitors and spectators alike with a brilliant barbeque supplied by the Leisure Centre to keep everyone going!

Winners received various prizes from sponsors including Edinburgh Bicycle Co-operative, Pool-Mate swimming computers, Up and Running, Sunsport Sunscreen, Accelerade Products and blueseventy Vision Goggles.
