Entries are now open for the Oulton Park Spring Duathlon, a race that carries the prestigious status of being a 2011 ITU Duathlon World qualifier.

Held on the 3rd of April 2011, the duathlon will attract some of the country’s top duathletes.  The competitors will run two laps (8.61km), cycle nine laps (38.76km), and finish with one final run lap (4.31km) around one of the country's finest motor racing tracks.  But this race is not restricted to the elite, as novices can also try their hand (or legs!) at this thrilling sport too.  Relay teams may also take part, where two or three people share the challenge.

This exciting race will be held at the famous Oulton Park Motor Racing Circuit.  The top-class venue offers a traffic free course, and the thrill of a transition zone in The Pits.  Set in the superb park grounds of Oulton Hall (no longer standing), the track speeds through some glorious Cheshire countryside; providing a backdrop of ancient trees, a beautiful lake and luscious views.  The circuit has one of the best quality cycling surfaces in the country, a banked hairpin, an exhilarating course, and plenty of vantage points for spectators to cheer on competitors.  All in all, an awesome experience awaits competitors and spectators, alike.

2011 will be the fourth year that organisers, Xtra Mile Events, have run duathlons at Oulton Park.  “Competitors love it.  The venue is superb, and this will be a fantastic race from which to select GB team members for the 2011 world championship”, said Race Director, Simon Hill.

The ITU Duathlon World Championship will be held at Gijon, Spain in September 2011.  Overall, forty GB athletes will be selected - twelve from the four qualifying races.  The top three eligible men and women from the Oulton Park Spring Duathlon will gain places on the GB Duathlon Team.

As an added bonus, the race will be started by Formula 3 ace, Oli Webb – tipped to be ‘the next Jenson Button’ on the motor racing scene.  The Cheshire racing driver came third in the 2010 British F3 International Series – just his first year in this category.  Throughout last year, Webb was consistently the highest placed driver with an HWA Mercedes; and in the coming year the talented young driver is looking at both Renault World Series and F3.  The race organisers hope that Webb will also follow Button into competing in triathlons, by taking part in the duathlon, and have already reserved him pole position on the starting grid!
