Tri-umph at Wilmslow! - Race report and results from the first ever Wilmslow Triathlon
On 13th May Wilmslow celebrated its first ever triathlon. Over 150 competitors swam, cycled and ran the picturesque course of the Wilmslow Triathlon. And hundreds of spectators enjoyed the sunny weather during this exciting event, which started and finished at Wilmslow Leisure Centre.
Rising Manchester triathlon star, Paul Hawkins of Planet X, won his third consecutive triathlon by completing the 400m swim, 24km bike and 6.7km run in a rapid 1hr 5mins 56secs; the first woman home was Jacqui Slack of SubSixty (1hr 17m 17s); and the winning team was Manchester Triathlon Club (Chris Standidge, Robert Bell, Rob Wilby). The event also attracted a great number of novices to triathlon, and the winner of this category was Andy Norman, who stormed home in a very credible 1hr 12mins 19secs.
The day's excitement was enhanced courtesy of sponsors, including ForGoodnessShakes, Redbull, Edinburgh Bicycle Co-operative and Natural Practices, who contributed to a Participant Pack for competitors. Local therapists, Sport-Med, were on hand to provide pre- and post-race massages. Sports shop, 'The Sweatshop', were also present with a stall of triathlon-related products; and prizes included a free personal training session from Wilmslow's ICAN, and compression tops from Canterbury of New Zealand.
