Skipper sets Wilmslow Triathlon Record!
Record temperatures, record number of entrants and a record time were on the cards at the Wilmslow Triathlon on 11th May 2008! Beautiful weather greeted the 200 competitors at the event sponsored by Edinburgh Bicycle Co-operative. The participants completed a 400metre swim, 15mile bike ride through Cheshire countryside, and finally a 4mile run around east Wilmslow.
The 'Elite' group were last to set off in the pool, which culminated in a closely fought battle between Paul Skipper and Paul Hawkins (the 2007 winner) both of Team TriCentral, and eventually resulted in a win for Skipper in just 1hr 2mins 13secs - a new course record! Charlotte Linfoot of Tri Team Wigan was the first female in a time of 1hr 17mins 34secs.
Over 50% of the field were novices to the sport, and hence the Wilmslow Triathlon spawned over 100 new triathletes!
The excitement of the event was enhanced by the many spectators who came to watch; and by the various contributions of sponsors Edinburgh Bicycle Co-operative, Sweatshop, TriCentral, Redbull, For Goodness Shakes!, Onken, and SportMed. And, on such a hot day many competitors were greatly pleased by the site of local resident Shiona Griffiths, who provided a not only a water station for the runners outside her home, but also a run through hose pipe drenching service - which was greatly appreciated by many of them!
