Shaw to Shore & Wade's Out First!
Llandudno Sea Swim 19th June 2010
Taking just 19mins and 17secs to cover 1500metres in a choppy sea, Hamish Shaw (Scarab Triathlon Club) was the winner of the inaugural 1500metre blueseventy Llandudno Sea Swim held on 19th June 2010 at the famous coastal resort. Vicki Wade (Manchester Triathlon Club) was the first lady out of the water in 22min10sec.
Over 100 competitors took part in the swim, on a gloriously sunny day. Starting from the ‘Paddling Pool’ end of the bay, a mass of bobbing lilac swim hats attracted a large throng of cheering spectators, who followed the swimmers as they made their way along the shoreline course. The competitors tackled the undulating water before finishing at the slipway near to the bandstand, where they were welcomed out of the water by the appreciative crowd, and provided with drinks from sponsors For Goodness Shakes and Pure Blue.
Despite a few reports of ‘feeling sea sick’, the gallant swimmers reported that they had enjoyed the swim. Many were using the event to prepare for the Llandudno Sea Triathlon on 11th July 2010, which uses the same course.
The winners received carbon goggles (worth £70) from premier wetsuit manufacturer blueseventy and a free entry to the Llandudno Sea Triathlon, courtesy of organisers Xtra Mile Events.
