Martin Cain was the winner of the first ever Glossop Triathlon. The Greater Manchester Fire Brigade Triathlon Club member finished the event in 1hr 18mins and 12seconds. The first lady was Lorraine Gandy, of Wakefield Triathlon Club who took 1hr 48mins and 25seconds.

140 people entered the 3-stage route, which started with a 400metre swim in the Glossop Victorian Pool, followed by a tough 14mile bike ride which took competitors up to 1,679ft above sea level over the Snake Pass and back, and finished with 4 and a half mile run around Old Glossop and Shire Hill. Impressively, around half the entrants were novice triathletes!

Many competitors commented on the stunning scenery, beautiful weather, and the number of local people who turned up to cheer them on along the route! The event was supported by Edinburgh Bicycle Co-operative, Sweatshop, TriCentral, 'For Goodness Shakes' and RedBull; and marshalled by Glossop & Buxton Round Tables and Glossop Army Cadets.
