Epilepsy Research UK is the only national charity solely supporting ground-breaking independent research into epilepsy. Every project we fund is rigorously assessed by a panel of experts to ensure that each project has the potential to advance our understanding of the condition.

Over 450,000 people in the UK have epilepsy, and every day there will be 75 people newly diagnosed. In over 60% of cases there is no known cause and 30% of people with epilepsy have seizures that do not respond to drug treatment. Epilepsy can also be fatal with 1,000 people dying every year as a result of the condition.

We are adding seven new research projects to our existing portfolio this year. The selected researchers, based at institutes around the UK, will be investigating a wide range of topics related to the causes, prevention and treatment of epilepsy. These projects represent the very best of cutting edge research and have the real potential to make a difference to the lives of people with epilepsy. We receive no government funding and are entirely dependent upon donations to fund our research projects so signing up to one of these events will really make a difference to the work that we do and the number of projects we are able to fund.

The RNLI saves lives at sea providing a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service around the coast of the UK and Republic of Ireland, as well as a seasonal lifeguard service on many of the busiest beaches in England and Wales.

The RNLI is an independent charity, and does not receive any funding from the UK government. We can’t save lives at sea without your support. We rely on particpants gaining sponsorship or making a one off donation in lieu of sponsorship to help our volunteer crews continue their outstanding brave and crucial works.

As a charity that receives no Government funding, the RNLI relies on public donations to operate its lifesaving service around the UK coast. Sponsorship money raised by the Sea Swim series will directly benefit the charity’s volunteer lifeboat crews and lifeguards throughout Wales.

If all participants could show their support and raise sponsorship or give a one off donation it would would mean we would be able to raise a staggering £15,000 from the swim alone. This is the equivilent to 90 new helmets between our 235 stations, or the amount needed per year to train just 12 crew member. Please help us to continue saving lives at sea.

Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice has been caring for the Leeds community for over 30 years providing an ever-increasing range of services for terminally-ill patients and their families, whether at their own home or in the hospice itself.
The care provided at Sue Ryder Wheatfields is three-fold.  On the inpatient unit specialised nursing and medical staff care for patients 24 hours a day and provide expertise in controlling pain and other distressing symptoms   The Day Therapy Unit provides day care to patients to help them remain independent, as well as giving them access to social and therapeutic activities.  Finally our team of Community Nurses care for patients in their own home.
Sue Ryder Wheatfields also offer emotional support as well as spiritual and social care which focuses on ensuring all patients, families and loved have the best quality of life at what is an extremely difficult and distressing time.
All this happens 365 days a year at zero cost to the patients and their families.  Each year the hospice needs to raise £1.5 million in voluntary contribution in order to continue their fantastic work.
Xtra Mile Events are proud to be supporting Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice with the Leeds Triathlon and Leeds Xpress Triathlon.
